The Jack Abramoff story is especially troubling. And the fact that he has been stopped doesn’t bring any solace to me. Just think about all the other lobbyists and companies who are going to continue along this path unabated.

One crazy solution to stemming this problem might be to pay elected government officials more money. Right now the President gets paid around $400,000 a year, and a Congressperson around $150,000.

If those salaries were raised to around 20 million a year for the President and $7 million for a member of Congress could it help alleviate the allure of outside cash? I realize that it wouldn’t cut out corruption completely, but surely it would lessen the draw of all that free cash floating around DC.
